Dual Enrollment Opportunities at Pequea Valley Secondary School
After completing their sophomore year, learners at Pequea Valley Secondary School have increased flexibility in their schedules. This allows them to pursue enriching educational experiences beyond the traditional classroom setting. One such opportunity is dual enrollment, which enables eligible juniors and seniors to take college-level courses for both high school and college credit.
What is Dual enrollment?
Dual enrollment allows qualified 2nd semester juniors and seniors to enroll in college courses through partner institutions while still attending Pequea Valley Secondary School. These courses provide a head start on college credits and exposure to the rigor of post-secondary education.
Key Information
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for dual enrollment, learners must:
- Be in their 2nd semester junior, or senior year
- Be in good academic standing
- Have a recommended GPA of 2.7 or higher
Course Requirements
Dual enrollment courses must:
- Be 100-level or higher
- Be offered in one of the following core subject areas:
- English
- Mathematics
- Social Studies / History / Humanities
- Foreign Language
- Business
Costs & Responsibilities
Tuition and Fees
- The cost of dual enrollment courses is the responsibility of the student and their parent/guardian.
- Payment is handled directly between family and college/university.
- Tuition varies by college/university and is typically charged per credit hour.
- Pequea Valley Secondary School does not cover the cost of dual enrollment courses.
Transportation
- Learners and families are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the college/university.
- Pequea Valley does not provide transportation for dual enrollment.
Grades, Credits & Transcripts
Grading
- The letter grade earned in the dual enrollment course as shown on college transcript will appear exactly as received on the Pequea Valley Secondary School transcript.
- Dual enrollment courses are weighted at 1.3 on the high school GPA scale.
Tutoring and Remediation
· Pequea Valley does not provide tutoring or remediation for dual enrollment classes.
· If tutoring is needed, the learner should take the following steps:
o Reach out to course professor
o Contact college/university office of academic support
Credit Allocation
- Learners will earn college credit (typically 3–4 credits per course), which will appear on the college transcript.
- Learners will also receive 1 high school credit per course, reflected on the Pequea Valley Secondary School transcript.
Please note: Dual Enrollment opportunities are programs that we offer to learners in good standing. Although these educational advancement programs are offered, The Pequea Valley School District does NOT provide transportation or payment for Dual Enrollment classes.
